Welcome to Doomsday?

Bill Moyers in the latest New York Review of Books fears that the rise to influence in the federal government of the very fundamentalist Christians and very ideological partisans will result in ecological catastrophe. His reasons: they are convinced that God has given them dominion over the world and so they can do what they wish no matter the ecological cost and they will be brought to heaven when the world ends as we sinners writhe in unimaginable pain.

He goes on to list what the Bush administration has done to make this a worse place to live in. Can we do anything about it?

Just arrived from Sparrow Chat - very serious situation here. I would believe that the "Rapture" is their motivation if it did not involve capitalism out of control. Yes, there are those who beat the drums for the end times, but that is all they are - drummers. As for Bush and Co., they are not believers, but brilliantly use the religious leaders to blind the truth. Bush Co., will take all they can get for the small minority of uber rich and isolate themselves from the social, economic and enviornmental disaster they created. Thanks for posting this.

I'm convinced that Rapture is the heart of our troubles. It's a nightmare of the worst kind, in my opinion.
