A sixth-grade student in Lakeland, Fla. refused to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance throughout the school year. A substitute teacher did not like that and had him, 11-years-old and black, arrested. The student
told the teacher that he did not stand because he believes the pledge represents racism.
Fortunately, the state attorney will not prosecute the child. Interestingly, thousands of Florida students are arrested every year, probably because the state allows the police to arrest students of any age.
