Taps (a memoir by a Duncaster resident}
Taps
"Lieb Vaterland, magst ruhig sein, fest steht die Wacht am Rhein. – Dear Fatherland, rest assured, solid stands the guard on the Rhine.” The generation of my father sang this song as boys during World War I. It addressed the perennial animosity between Germany and France and was a deep-seated feeling of youth then. World War I, the Versailles Treaty of 1918, and the renewed nationalism kept the song and feeling awake. I admit it had a hold on my emotions during my childhood in World War II.

Do bears like bird seed?
I'd have to say 'yes.'
When I'm at my computer, I have a good view of the bird seed that is put out for the birds. There is a fair amount - four containers of a reasonable size. Every morning when I log on, there are a variety of birds, particularly goldfinch. The birds seem happy to share their food with four squirrels (I think the same ones every day.) and some chipmunks.
A few months ago I came across a study of the bear sightings in Connecticut. The most sightings are in Simsbury, where I currently am. In the past year there were over 400, more than double the number seen in the next town. Well, I guess today was the day we were scheduled to be visited by a good-size bear. He ate half of the seed while destroying the containers. He hung around for 15 minutes or so but was finally driven off by a couple of BB volleys.
I do have a great photo of the bear, but the new version of Google's Blogger software won't allow me to insert it in this - or any - post. Do you have a suggestion?

Talk about being childish
From Business Insider:
President Donald Trump will not hold a ceremony at the White House for the unveiling of former President Barack Obama's portrait, NBC News reported.
This marks a break from a 40-year tradition honored by presidents from both parties.

True or False
One of the major problems with the Internet - and most media - is determining truth. The following video is a perfect example. Some of the charges made here seem very far out.
I was sent the video by a Duncaster resident.

A future Nascar driver
He was upset because his mother would not buy a Lamborghini for him. He had $3 in his pocket, so he thought he would buy one for himself.
