Remember Josephine Baker?
She was a big hit in Paris nightlife in the 1930s and 40s. She moved to France when racism became too much for her here. She was black and female.
President Macron has just given her a place in the Pantheon, where she will rest with France’s national heroes. She was selected because of her work on civil rights and for the Resistance during the Second World War.
