We are strange creatures
This Fall will see the ashes of 140 people shot into space and then dropped back down to earth. The ashes of Scotty from Star Trek and astronaut Gordon Cooper will be among the 140.
The point of this expensive charade eludes me, as I think it does you also. Were the remains to stay in space, perhaps catapulted into the cosmos to drift endlessly further and further into deep space, it would make a little more sense (I think!), but what is the point of bringing everything back down again? Perhaps it's to become an 'annual event'?
