"Workers cannot quit their jobs without the agreement and permission of the management of the enterprise," so says President Alyaksandr Lukashenka of Belarus.
He added that workers who left their jobs despite the warning would be
sentenced to compulsory labor and returned to the production line.
Belarus is trying to build a strong wood-processing industry, but it is losing workers who move to Russia for substantially higher wages. The president doesn't like that, so he resorts to forced labor.
