Maybe publicity does help

Gee - and thank God - the Army has ordered $70 million worth of body armor for our troops. Shipments should begin this month, with the order being filled by June. Further, the Army acknowledged that they need still more armor and wil be looking for more vendors to supply it.

Good morning Al:

Since this is Vineyard Visions, do you think your readers probably would enjoy more of visions about the Vineyard?
Seems to me that your comments about the Vineyard are rather neutral compared to your views of national affairs. For example, regarding the Graham case, you mentioned the article in the MVTimes about the close connection between Mr. Graham and the Gazette, but you took a neutral position on whether or not the Times was correct even though that paper made a very good case.
Now, having dared you to go out on a limb, I'll sign this: anon.

I'll take the dare as regards the Graham case. But, first, let me mention that the title is Vineyard Views, not Visions. I chose it not necessarily to write about the (or a) Vineyard, per se, although this would be a reader's natural assumption. I chose it more to indicate that I was viewing things from the perspective of someone living on the island of Martha's Vineyard.

I think I made my views known about one aspect of the Graham case - payment of the bills - on the floor of Town Meeting on Tuesday. I spoke strongly in favor of paying them. Also, MVTV has filmed Finance Committee meetings about this issue. Since you're a Vineyard resident, you likely know that I am a member of the Finance Committee. So, my views are known by those directly concerned with the issue, the voters of West Tisbury.

As to the case itself, no one knows how it will turn out, despite what the Gazette - not the Times - has said about the case. Why the hearings ran so long is an interesting question. Was this part of Graham's strategy?

The assessors should have been more forthcoming as to why mediation broke down. It does take two to make a deal and we don't know whether a meeting of the minds was possible.

Clearly, the case will have serious implications for each of us living in West Tisbury and, perhaps, other cities and towns in the state. But, it's not over yet. It has resulted in some policy changes by the Town; a few more may be needed.

The Town's real view of the matter will be shown in the April elections when Mr. Colaneri and Mr. Manter are up for re-election.

I don't bite and haven't held a grudge for forty years. Life is simpler if you know with whom you are dealing. Let me know who you are when you comment on this or my other posts.

Enjoy our January Spring. Who knows what awaits us in February!
