We didn't hear much of this visit from a statesman

Equatorial Africa is the third largest supplier of African oil. Maybe that's why he was welcomed by the Secretary of State last week.

Peter Maas wrote a fascinating article on Equatorial Guinea and its dictator, Teodoro Obiang, in the Jan 2005 edition of Mother Jones. It explains fairly lucidly why Obiang is so welcome in the White House.
Wikipedia says he suffers agonies from terminal prostate cancer. I hope so. It couldn't happen to a nicer man.
