More recruiting problems

Since we moved to an all-volunteer army, almost a quarter of Army recruits have been black. This is no longer the case. In fact, the recruitment rate of black soldiers has dropped by almost half. Is this a function of the war? Or, is there a deeper cause.

You know (or should) that I read what you write almost every day. I enjoy your writing and comments, but I do want to know what you mean by this. Could it just as easily be said that white recruitment is up? and why would that be? :)pete costas

It really is a question.
The military is, I believe, one place in our society that is relatively free of prejudice, or of the kind of prejudice that stops someone from advancing. That was one reason for the significant number of black people who joined.
That number is diminishing. It's an interesting question.
Overall, no matter the color of a soldier, the army is having major troubles recruiting; standards have been lowered, older people are being accepted.
I may not see it, but I'm convinced that the days of the volunteer army are numbered.
