That's the question for the head of the hurricane center of the National Weather Center. The powers that be at NOAA, the overseers of the National Weather Center, cut $700,000 from hurricane research but approved $4,000,000 to publicize their 200th anniversary.The director of the hurricane center says that the satellite which enables forecasters to measure wind speed and direction is old and failing; it should be replaced, but there are no plans for doing so.
