Starbucks is starting a job creation program. Howard Schultz, the CEO, has always been an out-of-the-box guy. He can't wait for our leaders to act, "Businesses and business leaders need to do more; we can't wait for Washington". He is placing his bets on small business and has created the "Create Jobs for USA" fund in partnership with Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), a group of private financial institutions that provide affordable loans to low-income people and communities. He is kicking off the effort with a $5 million donation from the Starbucks Foundation.
Starting next month each company-owned Starbucks will accept donations for the fund at CreateJobsforUSA.org and at the roughly 6,800 company-owned Starbucks cafes in the United States. So, your next visit to Starbucks will cost you $10, rather than the usual $5, but the extra $5 will go to a good cause.
