Mars from the Phoenix Lander

It looks like the desert to me. For more photographs, go to the NY Times.

Wha' d'ya expect, skyscrapers? ;-)

Seriously, every time a spacecraft lands on Mars the photos we get back are almost identical - sand and rocks, sand and rocks, and more sand and rocks. It'd be a great place for the remake of Lawrence of Arabia.

It amazes me that the trip there took 9 months...and the goal is to get some humans up there and back...a year and a half of just traveling provided they could get them back.

Seems all that NASA brain power could be used to undo some damage we have done on earth rather than looking for a way to get to another place to wreck.
