It really counts in Washington. The FDA scientists said more than once that a knee patch built by a company called ReGen Biologics was not safe. But, since ReGen is based in New Jersey and donated to the campaign war chests of NJ members of Congress, the FDA was convinced by the scientific arguments of the legislators that the device was safe. Today, the FDA is not sure they did the right thing and will re-evaluate.
