Gorbachev Has an Opinion

He suggests that we look at Russia's position in the world at the start of the 21st century in an intelligent way. He is convinced that Saakashvili was catered to by the West and that the West is not treating Russia with the respect it now deserves. He advises us to try to understand the Caucasus, rather than make faulty assumptions.

He makes some good points about our changing world. We should listen.

There are so few mature voices of reason around today, it's good to find one speaking honest truth. When that voice belongs to Gorbachev there's even more reason to listen. Frankly, the question raised is surely: if Saakashvili acted alone, why is the West suddenly trying to expedite Georgia's entry into NATO? I wouldn't think they'd be too keen to have in their midst some maverick likely to go off half-cock. Unless, of course, it's candy for services rendered?
