Reminders of the Past

Saul Landau reminds us of the Irgun, the Zionist terrorists active in Jerusalem before 1948, and chides Tzipi Lvini for referring to Hamas as terrorists when her father was a member of the Irgun. Further, he asserts that Israel helped Hamas when it was starting as Israel was looking for a counterweight to Arafat and the PLO.

Many of the Israeli leadership were one-time members of the Irgun. Some were actively involved in the bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem in 1946, in which nearly one hundred people died.
Ever since George W Bush applied the "terrorist" label to any organization unsupportive of America or its allies, it's been a convenient sticker to slap on those fighting against Western oppression.
Yes, when Arafat was in control of the PLO, they were the "terrorists", and Hamas the more moderate guys. Once Abu Mazen took charge of the PLO, after Arafat's death, he showed himself prepared to buckle under Israeli pressure, making him a quisling in Hamas' eyes - and some others in the Arab world.
Israel has a black history it works hard to cover up.
