DOD Still Cannot Be Audited

According to the GAO, the data that DOD relies on to do its job is faulty. Auditors cannot depend on its reliability.  Not only does this create problems trying to assess the past, this unreliability makes it virtually impossible for management to "assess the resources needed for DOD operations; track and control costs; ensure basic accountability; anticipate future costs; measure performance; maintain funds control; and reduce the risk of loss from fraud, waste, and abuse". These are serious problems and they have been extant since at least 1995. DOD has made some strides but nowhere near the number needed to remedy the problem.
