7,300 to be furloughed?

That's the question South Carolina will face if the debt limit question is not resolved. There are 7,300 state employees - out of 58,000 - who are paid by the federal government. Why that is the case I know not, but I wonder how many other states are in the same position. If this debt limit issue is not cleared up, I think that there will be a range of consequences that will be a surprise to many.
