A View as to What Will Happen on August 3?

Since 2007 our congressional leaders have been arguing about the long-term funding of the FAA. So, every year since then, they have routed the money through short-term extensions. This year the game has changed

Some Republicans worry that a provision in the long-term funding bill will make it easier for unions to organize FAA workers. Unlike our Commander-in-Chief, Democrats won't give in. So, there will be an immediate cut of $16,500,000 in the FAA funds. This means that 4,000 people will be out of work and the federal tax on airline tickets will not be applicable. This tax is the money that pays for the 4,000 workers. Note that a week's tax amounts to about $200,000,000, which is just a little more than the $16,500,000 our leaders are fighting about.
