We have met the enemy and...

he is us. Walt Kelly said this in his cartoon strip, Pogo, sometime in the 1950s. Umair Haque is saying basically the same thing in a HBR Blog in 2011, sixty years later. Haque's particular cause in this article is the state of our economy, not from a technical perspective, but from the perspective of how it is driven by our outsize appetites, rather than our intelligence. Our appetites are unchecked and result in such conditions as pollution, fantastically unequal distribution of wealth, a less than first rate educational system, excessive unemployment, etc.

He has a point, a significant point.
